Who’s ready for another Scream movie? Yes, Scream, aka Scream (2022) or Scream 5, just came out in January, but because it rapidly proved to be one of the early breakout 2022 movies with both audiences and reviewers (see What to Watch’s review right here) it should be little surprise that a sequel was quickly announced and fast-tracked. As a result, moviegoers are going to get Scream 6 a little more than a year after the most recent installment of the long-running horror franchise.
The first Scream came out in 1996, directed by Wes Craven and starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, and others. There were three sequels before this latest Scream — called a “requel” (reboot/sequel) by its meta script -came out. Does it make Scream 6 a requel sequel? (Sorry.)
Anyway, here is everything we know so far about Scream 6. FYI, some SPOILERS ahead as we’ll have to disclose a few details to the plot of Scream (2022).
When is the Scream 6 release date?
On March 31, 2023, Scream 6 will be released in theatres. A little more than 14 months after Scream (2022), which opened in theatres on January 14, 2022, the new movie will be released.
Who is in the Scream 6 cast?
There will be a new Scream 2022, with Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega returning as well as Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, all ready to reprise their roles, according to Variety
When it was revealed that Sam Loomis (Barrera’s character) was the biological daughter of the original Scream killer Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), it was a surprise to no one. Both Brown and Gooding’s twin siblings, Mindy and Chad, are related to the original film’s star Randy Meeks through a blood relation (Jamie Kennedy).
Scream 4 star Hayden Panettiere will return as Kirby Reed in the upcoming film, The Hollywood Reporter reports, a throwback to her previous role.
Neve Campbell, one of the original Scream cast members, will reportedly be absent from Scream 6, according to Variety. Whether or whether Courtney Cox will return for the next chapter is unknown at this time.
Auch Dermot Mulroney, whose part is still a mystery, has joined the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Who is directing Scream 6?
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet of Radio Silence directed Scream 2022, the fifth and final Scream film, following Wes Craven’s four previous Scream films. Scream 6 will feature the duo once again.
In addition, James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, the authors of Scream (2022), are returning to collaborate on the next film.
What is the Scream 6 plot?
Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad will leave Woodsboro for a new beginning in the upcoming Scream film. The odds are in our favor because Ghostface is impossible to contain.
